1 October 2024 – opening of the 19th Century Publications Department Reading Room

On 1 October 2024, we are opening the Reading Room of the 19th Century Publications Department on level 1 of BUW, room 156. It will be open on Mondays and Tuesdays from 11.30am to 7.30pm, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 5pm, and one Saturday a month from 10am to 4pm (working Saturday dates will be available on the Department’s website).

It will provide access to books and periodicals published between 1801 and 1918, which will no longer be ordered to the main Reading Room.
To use the collections in the new location, readers are required to: posess a valid BUW card, accept the Special Collections Regulations, as well as complete a Reader’s Declaration on site.

The re-establishment of a separate reading room for the 19th  Century Publications Department is dictated by the need to increase their safety and security, as well as to ensure appropriate access conditions.

For organisational reasons, on 30 September 2024, access to the 1801-1918 collection will be suspended, new orders will not be possible and objects set aside in the main Reading Room will be returned to the Closed Stacks.

We apologise for any inconvenience and welcome to the new Reading Room!
